Lena Christ: Erinnerungen einer Überflüssigen Erstdruck: München (Albert Langen) 1912. Vollständige Neuausgabe mit einer Biographie der Autorin. Herausgegeben von Karl-Maria Guth. Berlin 2015.

About the Author Geboren 30.10.1881 Glonn/Oberbayern; gestorben 30.6.1920 in München.

Excerpt from And Even NowI offer here some of the essays that I have written in the course of the past ten years. While I was collecting them and (quite patiently) reading them again, I found that a few of them were in direct reference to the moments at which they were severally composed. It was clear that these must have their dates affixed to them. And for sake of uniformity I have dated all the others, and, doing so, have thought I need not exclude all such topical remarks as in them too were uttered, nor throw into a past tense such of those remarks as I have retained. Perhaps a book of essays ought to seem as if it had been written a few days before publication. On the other hand - but this is a Note, not a Preface.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. 6 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Well! By Kevin Killian I like funny things, and when I was a boy it was a commonplace among my family that there had never been a man funny as the "incomparable Max." His plots and sentences were endlessly quoted and even the names of his characters were so amusing one had only to be whispered and the entire household joined in raucous laughter. His novel Zuleika Dobson, and his volumes of short stories Seven Men and Two Others, and A Christmas Garland (parodies of Edwardian writers, each one set at Christmastime), may I suppose live on in the history of writing, and I know people today, even young people, who enjoy them no end. And appreciation for his famous caricatures seems to be ever on the increase, particularly with the internet where many of them are widely seen by people from all over the world. But then there's a book like AND EVEN NOW, first published in 1920, a collection of essays and memoirs. Once it sparkled like champagne, now it's, well, flat. Some of it is unfortunately dated, but these pieces do not seem appreciably worse than those that have not dated a jot, for all of them share the same essence, the flavor of having been written by a man who loves the sound of his own voice and thinks he's the cat's pajamas. My students rebelled when I asked them to read the Beerbohm classic, "Going Out for a Walk." It is filled with the wit and paradox we expect from Beerbohm--the thing turns into a tremendous peroration about why walks are horrible and ends up, "I will never go out for a walk." Very Fran Lebowitz, right? Another level of depth is added by Beerbohm's frequent resort to misty memories of a long time ago, before tax exile in Rapallo and before modern ways made society boring. The first essay in "And Even Now" (you can hear the figure of time passing in the title) is called, "A Relic." He's the relic in one sense, but basically he unpacks an old case and finds a scrap of writing in his own hand--a single sentence. "Down below, the sea rustled to and fro over the shingle." From that sentence a whole seacastle of memory instantly grows and closes over the mind of the old man--a structure of feeling, the memory of having written a great sentence and needing something the set it off, needing a plot to bring up the pathos. It is clever and it is moving, but funny it's not.Beerbohm is more modernist than he is amusing. I think nowadays people want a David Sedaris to show them the funny side of life. Beerbohm's curiosities repel, often as not, and his position as a selfstyled "Tory anarchist" is a little bit on the Sarah Palin side. I wish they would make a movie about him like the KING'S SPEECH movie, showing how he helped George VI prepare for invasion by Germany by returning from Rapallo and murmuring nonsense into his ear to lift up the beleaguered monarch's fancy. Colin Firth can continue to play George VI, but I think we need Ian McKellen to gain about seventy-five pounds and play the hell out of Max Beerbohm, the necessary man.

However, this edition is VERY hard to read (like too many other books from CreateSpace). The type is much too small for the length of the lines. With larger type, wider margins, and shorter lines (which means the book will have more pages), this book could be a pleasure to read. As for the book itself, I love Max Beerbohm's essays, especially "William and Mary."

Many of us want to increase our self-sufficiency, but few have access to the ideal five sunny, gently sloping acres of rich, loamy, well-drained soil. Jenni Blackmore presents a highly entertaining, personal account of how permaculture can be practiced in adverse conditions, allowing anyone to learn to live more sustainably in a less-than-perfect world. With a rallying cry of "If we can do it, you can too," she distills the wisdom of twenty years of trial and error into a valuable teaching tool.

The perfect antidote to dense, high-level technical manuals, Permaculture for the Rest of Us presents the fundamental principles of this sometimes confusing concept in a humorous, reader-friendly way. Each chapter focuses on a specific method or technique, interspersing straightforward explanations with the author's own experiences. Learn how to successfully retrofit even the smallest homestead using skills such as:

No-till vs. till gardening, composting, and soil-building Natural pest control and integrating small livestock Basic greenhouse construction Harvesting, preservation, and more

Ideal for urban dreamers, suburbanites and country-dwellers alike, this inspirational and instructional "encouragement manual" is packed with vibrant photographs documenting the author's journey from adversity to abundance.

Jenni Blackmore is a farmer, artist, writer and certified Permaculture Design Consultant who built her house on a rocky, windswept island off the coast of Nova Scotia almost twenty-five years ago and has been stumbling along the road to self-sufficient living ever since. Permaculture for the Rest of Us: Abundant Living on Less than an Acre, by Jenni Blackmore

Review Publishers Weekly, October 2015

(Blackmore's) book is both a manual and a memoir, using her experiences as a springboard to explain permaculture how-tos and how-not-tos. Blackmore's take on permaculture, the concepts of which were developed in Australia, is decidedly Northern. Anyone envying typical descriptions of lush, fertile land and perfect climates will be heartened by Blackmore's story. She discusses vegetable timetables, ways to create different growing conditions, keeping weeds at bay, dirt building, heat and cold tolerance of plants, greenhouses, "lasagna gardening," and more. She also imparts her knowledge on raising chickens, turkeys, ducks, and rabbits. Her advice is perfect for the beginning and aspiring permaculturist: non-threatening, clear, and told from a charming personal perspective.

Permaculture is personal journey to a more sustainable, earth regenerating lifestyle. In Permaculture for the Rest of Us, Jenni Blackmore skillfully weaves a thorough explanation of permaculture principles and practices into her own story of returning to the land. With wit and charm she draws on her experiences homesteading in a challenging climate. She deftly illustrates how she and her family have truly created abundance while embracing the natural world around them. The result is a wealth of information, advice and inspiration.---Darrell Frey, Author of Bioshelter Market Garden: A Permaculture Farm

Self-reliance is a choice today, and a difficult one, but it won't be a choice in the future. Jenni Blackmore writes with heart about her family's crawl toward living in harmony with nature. Sharing her hard-won lessons in permaculture with verve and intimate warmth, the author reveals the human side of building a new way of life: food, seeds, animals, weather and setbacks. Genuine, pithy, and filled with practical tips to encourage and guide the reader, the book also expands our knowledge of coastal ecosystems.---Peter Bane, author, The Permaculture Handbook: Garden Farming for Town and Country and publisher, Permaculture Activist magazine

A welcome breath of fresh air, Jenni Blackmore's Permaculture for the Rest of Us is exactly what the title suggests: an enthusiastic, user-friendly guide to ecologically sensitive homesteading, using permaculture principles, for those who don't happen to have the money and opportunity to buy five or ten acres of perfect farmland. For those who want to grow their own food without pesticides or the other problematic features of industrial agriculture -- and these days, it's hard to think of a more useful step toward personal sustainability -- this is an excellent guide.-- John Michael Greer, author, Green Wizardry: Conservation, Solar Power, Organic Gardening, and Other Hands-On Skills from the Appropriate Tech Toolkit

As Canadians change their approach to the garden, Jenni Blackmore is leading the way. It is not that nature has changed but our attitude towards her is. Blackmore shows us how to embrace the lead that nature provides us with, in an approach that is as much storytelling as it is a guide to self-sufficiency.I am not sure if this book is more useful in the magazine rack, next to the almanac where I can pick it up and gather some nuggets of knowledge that will make me a better gardener, or next to my fat, cushioned reading chair where I enjoy a good story. We need a special category for this book.---Mark Cullen markcullen.com

For most, permaculture can seem like a complex philosophy too daunting to make part of our everyday reality. In Permaculture for the Rest of Us, Jenni Blackmore masterfully distills the concepts and principles of permaculture in such a way that the reader is convinced to put theory into practice. Both optimistic and realistic, Permaculture for the Rest of Us is a rare combination that provides both the how and why of creating a simpler life while fostering a deeper connection with nature, with the Earth, and with each other.---Av Singh, Just Us! I am currently going to school to earn my permaculture design certificate. At the moment, I am deeply buried in zones and sectors, which are amazing, and yet overwhelming concepts. Jenni's book is the first of its' kind. It is lighthearted and informative and yet presents the concept of permaculture in a way that will be interesting to permaculture novices and experts alike. I will be recommending this book to my classmates and buying more copies as gifts.

Johanna Basford's amazing 2013 bestseller Secret Garden fueled the adult coloring craze, selling an unprecedented number of copies. It was born out of the self-described "ink evangelist's" passion for the hand-drawn line and its inherent sense of energy, which is impossible to duplicate via computer-generated graphics. Her initial bestseller was quickly followed by two more as her fan base and the coloring phenomenon grew. Along the way she's lent her art to such corporate clients as Starbucks, Absolut Vodka, and Chipotle. No matter where it's encountered, her art evokes fancy in the viewer, inviting closer inspection of its hidden intricacies.Twelve of Johanna Basford's intricate and fascinating designs from her best-selling book Secret Garden are included in this 2016 wall calendar for fans to color or enjoy as is.

Twelve Beautiful and Large selections from Secret Garden in 2016 Calendar Format – printed on white lightweight card stock By iiiireader [[VIDEOID:f45d23708bd30ef75b3d1dc0a131e3fe]]This is a fantastic calendar for any fan of Johanna Basford's beautiful artwork. There are twelve designs selected from the original “Secret Garden” and unlike the portfolio version of the book, the calendar actually does enlarge the images and makes it even easier to color. It will also make for a really nice piece of art that can be framed. It also has some of the Inky Treasure Hunt elements to make for a little more fun while you are coloring. Unlike the book, there is no key to finding the “treasures”.Unlike the book, these designs are printed on white rather than cream. The designs are set far enough away from the artwork that the calendar “hole” can be covered by matting or a frame if you choose to take the calendar apart after you have colored the pictures. The calendar is 12 x 12 inches, so it is considerably larger than the original book at approximately 10 x 10 inches. If my pictures come through as planned, you will see that I have put my most recent copy of the book next to the calendar so you can see the difference in size.As a calendar, it has the major holidays with emphasis on British ones (which makes sense, of course.) It has a back look at the prior month and a forward look at the next month. The back of the cover page has a small date calendar for 2015, 2016, and 2017 so it is a really useful calendar for my purposes. The front cover has gold foil elements and can be colored, too. The back can also be colored but it is much smaller to work with those images. There is a title page which can be colored but you will need to be careful with the coloring medium you use as it could leak through and ruin the January image. The paper used for the calendar is a decent weight card stock. It is bright white. The binding is a traditional two staples at the fold in the middle of the book, so taking this calendar apart later should prove to be a very simple project.I tested a variety of markers and gel pens as well as pencils. I found that all permanent markers, Sharpies, Copics, etc. bled through immediately and heavily. My water-based markers were mixed with only two proving to have no leakage. Those two were my Staedler triplus fineliners and my Tombow duel brush (both the brush and the marker points.) My Stabilo 88's bled through with dark and bright colors being most noticeable. Other colors left a shadow on the back of the page. All other water-based markers bled through to varying degrees with all of the variety of colors I used. My gel pens (Fiskars and TekWriter) worked well but needed some extra drying time which is standard for a better grade of paper. I tried my Derwent Studio, Prismacolor Premier, and Prismacolor Verithins coloring pencils and they all worked great and as I would expect given the types of “lead” that they have. If you are using any other type of coloring medium, I would suggest testing before you use it to see if it leaks through.I am fine with the bleed-through and will use whatever medium I choose. With the exception of the title page, all of the artwork backs onto the monthly calendar and I don't mind losing the dates, etc. once I start coloring in the book. Included with the calendar (to keep it safe) is an excellent piece of chipboard that is the perfect size to use as a “safety” paper when you are coloring. Be sure to save it to use for this purpose as it might be difficult to find a 12 x 12 inch piece of paper or chipboard later.I am so very happy to get this calendar – in fact, I ordered two. I want to use one for the year but I can't wait the year to color it. It's fantastic that the pictures are larger as it will make it easier to color. I think it is a great gift to give to any colorist and I will be buying some additional copies to give as holiday gifts this season.

It's a 12"x12" so you have the freedom of using the medium of your choice EXCEPT Bic Mark-It's and Sharpies. They immediately bled through the other side onto the numbered days. However, my Steadtler Triplus FIneliners, Stabilo 88's, Lolliz, Fiskar's, and Sakura Gelly Rolls ( all 72 in my arsenal) did well. This calendar is not spiral bound in the U.S., but you can take it to have it done at an office supply store easily. From what JB said, they will all be spiral for 2017, though. All of the observed holidays are in this calendar and some for other countries. The pages aren't perforated for removal, but they are easily removable.

I am SO impressed (and I'm a picky customer) with the quality and beauty of this calendar. There isn't anything I would change. I've been working on the January image for about 3 days now - it's a lot of "work" but very therapeutic and rewarding. I will post a pic of what I have so far (still have about 8 flowers to go). I'm happy with the artwork, the calendar grid, the thickness and quality of the paper - EVERYTHING is perfect! Kudos to the artist and the manufacturer. So rare to get a truly quality item like this that exceeds all expectations. This calendar is worth far more than the price. I'd pay $30 for it, honestly. This is the only calendar I want from now on, every year, serious!Too bad about the 1 star review customer who said the calendar stressed her out - just not her thing I guess. But notice she didn't say anything was wrong with the calendar itself...

Ethan Mordden's new entry in his history of the Broadway musical looks at an era that brought us not only the gritty reality of "A Chorus Line" and the brilliantly bittersweet works of Stephen Sondheim, but also the nostalgic crowd-pleasers "No, No, Nanette" and "Annie." It was a time when Broadway both looked to its past, but also to its future and allowed reality to enter. Mordden writes of the last time we ever saw true greatness on the stage of the Broadway musical.

15 of 16 people found the following review helpful. A thoroughly-detailed, colorful trip through 1970s musicals. By Matthew Murray There's plenty to admire in Ethan Mordden's series of books about the art and craft of American musical theatre, and examples of some of the best of it can be found in his most recent volume, One More Kiss: The Broadway Musicals of the 1970s. In discussing some of the biggest hits (A Chorus Line, 1975), biggest flops (1600 Pennsylvania Avenue), and most groundbreaking (Follies, from which he derived the title of the book), Mordden provides a wild ride through a difficult decade in which the very nature of what made a musical--and what about the musical appealed to the theatregoing public--was changing irrevocably. His writing style is opinionated, yes, but also neat, with an incredible number of facts, and plenty of references to his exquisite knowledge of matters both musical and theatrical. The book, however, reads very quickly, and is almost over before it's begun. While the length of the book cannot rightly be considered Mordden's fault, still greater detail about the decade's shows would have improved the overall flow of the book, as would have more of the social and showbiz atmosphere that made his earlier books (particularly Comin' Up Roses: The Broadway Musicals in the 1950s) such a joy. He also runs out of steam right at the end, when he really needs to wrap things up and not just... stop. As this is his last planned volume (chronologically), to let so much just drop is somewhat irresponsible, and prevents the book from achieving its full dramatic power and usefulness as a reference book.Still, it's a highly entertaining read, and a must-have for those who have followed Mordden through previous decades in the Broadway musical's Golden Age.

14 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Recommended With Caveats By Ricky Hunter Ethan Mordden has added another volume to his valuable series of books covering Broadway musicals, decade-by-decade, from the twenties to the seventies. One More Kiss, the Broadway musical in the 1970s, is the most personal of all the volumes. In many ways, this is one of its strong features as the author has personally seen all of the shows and can give an impression of it beyond what the critics have left. This strength, though, can often be the book's weakness as the author's personal feelings spill over all the pages. His political conservatism often shadows his opinions in ways that tell one more about the author than about the shows he is discussing. Still, it is an interesting book, sometimes fascinating and informative, sometimes shrill and bitchy, but always well-informed and particularly strong in its analysis of the major hits (Chorus Line, Chicago, Annie, etc.) and the Sondheim shows. A fascinating, frustrating addition to this series.

14 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Alas, the Last Kiss of All By enubrius There have been numerous histories of the American Musical and, like that unique art form itself, their quality has varied. Some have been excellent such as Gerald Bordman's "The American Musical", some dreadful (kindness forbids naming names, but you know who you are Mr. Flinn!). And then there is one that is sui generis. Actually, that one is six. Ethan Mordden's six volumes, each covering a decade from the '20 when what we define as American musicals began through the '70's when, as Mr. Mordden mordantly beilieves, it ended. The genius of these works (really only one long work) lies in both its completeness (what other work on the subject would include "Smith", a Don Murray starring fiasco of the early '70's?) and the brilliant evocation of each show in its time and place in American theater and culture. Mordden manages this feat even for shows he couldn't possibly have seen unless he's old enough to make Bob Hope seem a comparative teen-ager. I am not stating anything radical when I say that this is NOT a book to everyone's taste. We can't get people to GO to musicals anymore, let alone READ about them. But for those who care, this is THE one to read.

It lets you take your child back in time 50 years to a time when we all had such a marsh in our back yard or only a bike ride away. The illustrations bring the rhymes to life and the characters are ones we know and love, being themselves in their habitat. We get a peek at something hard to find now, a serene natural world, and we can share it with our children and grandchildren. Thanks, Consie and Nina! Ir's a treasure!

By Joann Caruso The illustrations in this book are colorful and captivating while being true to nature. The use of baby creatures come to life on the pages makes it even more intriguing for the youngest of readers or the read-to audience. The littlest fans of the book love looking at the pictures while hearing the lyrical story of this unique ecosystem. I have it on good authority from a third-grader that it is a fun read for the elementary school set too.

Setting new expectations (and expiration dates) for the strategic models driving procurement's work By Kelly McCarthy Barner In November, Kate Vitasek and a team of co-authors released Strategic Sourcing in the New Economy: Harnessing the Potential of Sourcing Business Models for Modern Procurement. Vitasek is best known for her Vested Outsourcing series a books, which are responsible for helping professionals in all functions see the potential of outsourcing relationships aimed at accomplishing a new, more value-oriented type of result. While the Vested books naturally appeal to a procurement audience, you would hardly say that procurement is the main character. We appear in little more than an occasional walk on role – not central to the plot and not particularly memorable. The contrast between procurement’s role in the Vested series and the fact that we now have a book dedicated to our perspective and objectives is striking. While the Vested Way is open to all, clearly we seized an opportunity that has now led to a book all our own.The big shocker of the book – you might want to sit down for this – is the belief that the Porter’s Five Forces and Kraljic models are no longer well suited to the goals and objectives of a modern competitive enterprise. Michael and Peter are out. Their strategic models, which were revolutionary in their time, overly emphasize the need to build power relative to one’s business partners. Before you feel too badly about this change in circumstances, it is fair to point out that the models were introduced in 1979 and 1983 respectively. So, 37 and 33 years ago. They had a pretty good run, but it does seem logical that we should revisit our guiding principles every 3 – 4 decades or so.Enter ‘Sourcing Business Models’ from Vitasek and team. There are 7 Sourcing Business Models, defined by the authors as “the combination of two critical concepts: the contractual relationship framework you use to work with your supplier (transactional, relational, investment based) and economic model you use (transactional, output, or outcome based). Because the encompass a wide range of approaches on the sourcing continuum, the models and outcomes vary significantly. More importantly, there is no one fixed center point – such as power – that leads to homogeneous results across the models like you might have with either Porter or Kraljic. If there is a downside to Sourcing Business Models, it might be that procurement has too long been overly dependent upon models in general. We had a strategic sourcing process, until we follow it like a checklist and it became tactical. There is a risk that this is replacing one model addiction with another, but it is still an improvement. And if any change comes from this, perhaps it will be the lesson that we should revisit the models we use every 5-10 years rather that 30-40.In fact, one of my favorite quotes in the book, from Luke G. Williams, executive director of innovation and entrepreneurship and professor of marketing at New York University’s Stern School of Business, is “Disruptive innovation is not just about following a process. It represents a mindset – a rebellious instinct to discard old business clichés and remake the market landscape.” If we assume that the authors agree with this sentiment, we have to think that they fully expect to see their models evolve or be replaced as circumstances require.Like the other books involving Vitasek, Strategic Sourcing in the New Economy is chock full of case studies – really good ones, where the companies are both identified by name and recognizable. An additional resource that I particularly like are the ‘Recommended Reading’ textboxes throughout the book. Not only do they make it easy to connect with additional information on each topic, their availability calls attention to the need to move on and do your own research to make the models and concepts your own.

Kane Procurement professionals have come to realize that the longstanding, power-based approach of negotiating suppliers into submission has diminishing utility in today’s economy, yet few know how or when to move beyond that convention to something superior, or even what a better approach might be. While there is no single right answer to meet this challenge, there are arguably several wrong ones as evidenced by roughly half of all sourcing relationships failing to deliver desired value. Consequently, since no single sourcing model works in all situations it has become vital to understand your options and architect the optimal relationship that gives you the best shot at meeting your desired business outcomes. And, that’s exactly what makes this book indispensable; it provides the foundation necessary to succeed on the job today and in the decades to come. In fact, Strategic Sourcing in the New Economy is one of the most comprehensive, best written, and valuable books available for sourcing and procurement professionals. I wholeheartedly and unreservedly recommend it.-- Lawrence Kane, COP-GOV, Sr. Leader, ITI Strategy & Sourcing

Organic chemistry is often perceived to be incomprehensible and disjointed from general chemistry. And while scientists ponder the complexity of nature and provide us with concepts of bonding, descriptions of organic mechanisms, and explanations of reactivity in functional groups, there is another reason why organic chemistry is so important-organic chemistry makes up our life. In What's the Matter?-Personalizing Principles of Organic Chemistry, Dr. Nichole Coleman uses everyday imagery to personalize organic principles in a way that will help students understand not only how atoms behave but also how atoms and molecules feel. The goal is to help students of organic chemistry and those generally interested in chemistry understand the basic chemical principles of organic chemistry through the power of metaphor and analogy.

I was his lucky Penny. He was my light in the dark, hope in despair. Our bond was one of survival, friendship... first love. But then we were ripped apart and Blake Weston became the memory I turned to when everything else in my life fell apart. Seven years later, a summer working at Camp Chance is supposed to be my fresh start. Beautiful scenery and the chance to better the lives of foster children - kids like me. But when my eyes land on him across the fire, time stands still and feelings come rushing back to the surface. I thought I'd moved on, tucked him away in my heart. One look into his soulful blue eyes and I know I'm wrong. Blake Weston can heal the broken parts of me. Restore my hope. Love me. It's our second chance. A sign we are supposed to be together. Isn't it? I was twelve when I survived the accident that killed my parents. Fourteen when I survived the devil. And sixteen, when I survived a heartbreak of the worst kind. But in my twenty-three years, Blake Weston might just be the first thing I won't survive. WARNING: This book contains references to abuse that some readers may find distressing.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. 2.5 disappointed stars By Nmmomof4 Overall Opinion: This touched me emotionally, but I was really disappointed at the ending. I didn't like the way the issues were resolved. I felt like it was all way too easy, and I didn't get nearly enough closure. I also felt like we were just skimming the surface of the characters, but never got really that deep in knowing who they were supposed to be. It had some major potential, but unfortunately I feel like it didn't get there.**See goodreads.com/NMmomof4 for my full review with spoilers**Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Penny and Blake's story. They meet when Penny arrives as the new kid at a foster group home. The foster parents that run the home are not good people, so they form a bond instantly to help each other through it. As they grow, so does their relationship. They get separated, and are reunited 7 years later at a camp for foster kids. They soon find that their connection is still there -- but of course it can't be that easy. They have some major obstacles, but eventually get their HFN ending.POV: This alternated between Penny and Blake's POV (with Blake's being primarily flashback scenes).Overall Pace of Story: Ok. I have a big issue with the abrupt ending. I felt like I was teary in the middle of drama, and then all of a sudden it was over and all wrapped up and tied with a bow. I didn't, however, skim at any time in the book.Instalove: No. They have known each other since they were 12, so it was a long term development.H rating: 3 stars. Blake. I felt like he was inconsiderate of Penny's feelings a few times, and i wanted him to just communicate better!h rating: 3 stars. Penny. She was damaged from her time in the foster group home, but I wanted her to stand up for herself more with the H when it seemed like he was jerking her around.Sadness level: Low/moderate. I did tear up a few times, but not so much I needed tissues.Heat level: Low. The scenes are more about furthering the emotional connection between the h and H, and not there to be hot IMO.Descriptive sex: Yes, but not in major detail (almost to the point of being fade-to-black but not quite).Safe sex: I don't recall any mention of condoms, birth control, or std status.OW/OM drama: Yes.Closure: I felt like it had an abrupt ending with not enough closure. I would call it a HFN ending for the couple. How I got it: It was part of my kindle unlimited subscription.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. There was a lot of potential in the story, but it fell flat for me. By Confessions of a Serial Reader When I first started reading this book, I felt like it had a lot of potential. The level of emotion right out of the gate really felt like it could carry through the entire plot. I was disappointed when that current grew weaker the more you read.Penny and Blake were foster siblings from the ages of 12-17, when Blake disappeared from Penny's life without a trace. They had a very strong bond and a young love that you would hope would last forever, Of course, circumstances beyond both of their control tore that bond and love apart, leaving Penny an emotional mess. This sets the tone for the book as a whole.Through a stroke of chance Penny and Blake are reunited as counselors at a camp for foster kids. Being back around each other brings up the emotions, questions and heartache of the past. When Penny finally feels the walls coming back down around her heart in regards to Blake, he crushes her once again. Disappearing with out a goodbye.Life after camp is where I became disappointed. Blake has a life that he didn't divulge to Penny. She had to find out about his 'complications' with out any warning. Penny as a character is very weak, in just about every way. IMO the way that Blake treats their 'relationship' while he works out his 'complications' just adds to it. Although his intentions toward Penny are good, he still makes her look like 'the other woman'.This is my confession: While I am happy with the HEA, I just wish there was more full-circle closure and less of Penny just accepting everything. It just felt very abrupt at the end. Your left with a very 'that's it?' feeling.

Wonderful story of love and friendship By Mollien Osterman Alpha Book Club Review5 Pennies Yes, you will need some tissues for this story, maybe not the full box, but enough. Lucky Penny is a story of two people that form a bond while they are in a foster home. It started after the accident that claimed the lives of both of Penny’s parents. Alone with no family to claim her, the traumatized 12 year old begins her life in foster care. Blake who is also lived at the foster home quickly took Penny under his wing. They became best friends and as they grew up their friendship became love. Before their 17th birthday, Blake’s rich Uncle locates him and takes him home with him. Blake never got a chance to say goodbye to his Lucky Penny. Seven years later they are reunited at a camp where they are working as counselors to teenagers in foster care. So much time has past. Neither one of them is the same, but the feelings that they once had are still there. This is a wonderful story of love, friendship and overcoming the past. You will not be able to put this book down until you find out if Penny and Blake can overcome the obstacles that life has thrown in their way.ARC provided by the author via Give Me Books in exchange for an honest review.
