My grandfather was the last person in the world I would have ever expected to hear a story about a personal encounter with bigfoot. He was a serious man and for him to discuss this ancient & controversial knowledge so openly was astounding. He wasn’t mean or abusive, but he had no time for silliness. He never wasted time on unexplained mysteries or folklore. He grew up in an era and in circumstances where silliness was “for women, children, and the mentally insufficient.” He was witness to a world war, the depression, and numerous other major events. Yet he never bragged, told tales or stories, and rarely reflected on the past. In fact, he didn’t speak much at all but when he did people listened because he would have something important to say. He was the last person in the world I would have ever expected to hear a story about a personal encounter with bigfoot.

It is very short and very quick to read. A grandson shares the story his grandfather told him about encountering Bigfoot many years earlier. His experience was different than what most people would think of when picturing a Bigfoot encounter. Bigfoot is portrayed in a more human way and not as a scary monster. There are quite a few grammatical errors and at times it was tough to read, but I would recommend this short story to anyone interested in reading different perspectives about the elusive Bigfoot. A quick read that is well worth it!

Cold case By Ashtar Command This is a very short story, written by one Samuel B, narrating a story told by his grandfather about an encounter with Bigfoot in “Mother Lode Country”, California at some point during the 1930's. Since the grandfather didn't tell his story until 1989, it's impossible to double check.Bigfoot, or Schlitze as grandpa calls him after a popular “freak show” performer, is described as a mischievous but harmless ape-like creature which follows a group of lazy gold prospectors around in the woods. One of the prospectors is grandpa himself. The squatch steals food from the bums, but otherwise keeps his distance. Interestingly (if you believe in Sasquatch), the gold-diggers didn't encounter any bears during their stay in Mother Lode Country, Schlitze somehow scaring them away. The story-teller claims that “the hairy man's” existence in the area was well-known, especially to the Natives, and that it wasn't seen as a big deal. The picture at the cover of the book is based on an illustration made by grandpa himself. It also turns out that the grandfather didn't dare tell his story for years for fear of ridicule. Not the most exciting read around, and only 16 pages, but I suppose you could file it as cold case no 5147 in your bigfooting archive…
