A Good Vampire Thriller But Has Its Shortcomings By Sol Okay, so being a teen girl these days means that one has to have heard of Twilight and/ or read and become obsessed with it. I liked Twilight, sure, but it wasn't my favorite. So what does all of this have to do with Heather Crews' 'Prince of Misery'...? My wanting to find a better vampire book than the Twilight saga, that's what. I've read my fair share of vampire related novels, and I must admit that they're not my favorite topic, and I do prefer old fashioned literature and sci-fi a bit more, but this genre is always a good pass-time.Now, coming back to this book; I had been trying to get my hands on a copy of this for months, and my chance finally came about when I found myself in need of signing up for an Amazon account to purchase my AP Lang. and Composition texts. I waited a week and a half for this book to arrive via regular shipping, and low and behold it shows up six days later than the estimated arrival. Once I received it, I took the first opportunity I had to dig in and blaze through the thing, and WHAT do I find after all of my 'misery' (forgive the pun) in trying to get the thing in the first place? The author had a half-formed idea, slapped it down on paper and published it without, what seems to be, even thinking about editing it. There were up to, and beyond, two grammatical and spelling errors per page (for such a short book, this is deplorable), and the writing can be said to be a mediocre attempt at sophistication, at best.Now, don't get me wrong, this was a GOOD book, and it was a nice vacation from the main-streamers such as the Twilight Saga, The Historian, Dracula, and The Vampire Diaries. Had the author and her publishing company taken even a passing glance at the writing and spent ten minutes editing the thing, I might've given this a 4.5 out of 5 instead of a 3. With this said, if they had tried harder it could have beaten out Twilight in the long run...but they didn't, and by doing this they lost my respect.My advice to anyone looking to purchase this book is this: buy a used copy that's about half the 'new' price. It isn't worth paying twenty dollars for when it's not even hard-back and the publishers obviously aren't spending the money by hiring a decent editor.

Heather Crews was able to take vampirism to a realm its never been brought to before, unlike the Historian which ends up extremely boring after about 300 pages the Prince of Misery is awesome through and through.
