Advance praise from the technical golf community for The Science of the Perfect Swing is shown in the Editorial Review section below. The major task in writing The Science of the Perfect Swingwas the simplification of the engineering science so that it could be readilyunderstood. The primary objective was to allow inquisitive golfers to gain adeeper understanding of all aspects of the sport from ball striking and ballflight through to the capture of the ball in the hole. Such knowledge providesa firm foundation for performance improvements. It also allows a greaterappreciation of the performance of Tour professionals on which many of the casestudies are based. Rich in illustrations, graphs, and charts, The Science ofthe Perfect Swing strikes a perfect balance between golf science and adescriptive form that will appeal to golf enthusiasts and general readers ofsports science, as well as to the golf science community. Some harder science is necessary for the work to havecredibility in the science world, but this is corralled into smaller separatedsections where it can be browsed or skipped without any loss of understandingof the fundamental principles of the game.

Review "WOW! This is some Tour de Force! In its scope and detailed content this looks like the book I never wrote. I absolutely applaud the concept of the book and the effort put into it. Golf science needed a book like this." Alastair Cochran(Co-author of The Search for the Perfect Swing, co-founder of the World Scientific Congress of Golf)"Peter Dewhurst has thoroughly blown the smoke and mirrors of misinformation away to explain the indisputable facts of how golf clubs do what they do. This fascinating book on the field of golf club and golf ball technical performance will be an invaluable resource for everyone involved in the game; and particularly for the inquisitive player wishing to understand the fundamentals of effective play." Tom Wishon, writer, designer, owner of Tom Wishon Golf Technology."No sport involves as much interesting physics as the game of golf and nowhere is this better described than in The Science of the Perfect Swing. Dewhurst's easy to follow style will provide golfers with insights that will improve their performance and add to their overall appreciation of the sport." Raymond Penner, Professor of Physics, Vancouver Island University (developer of the physics for the AimPoint putting trajectory simulation on the Golf Channel)"The Science of the Perfect Swing is an impressive and compelling description of the complete golf shot in the tradition of The Search for the Perfect Swing. This book will benefit any golfer interested in a deeper understanding of the underlying science of the club, swing, and golf shot. Highly recommended." Steven Nesbit, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Lafayette College(expert on the biomechanics of the golf swing)

From the Author The principles of golf are those found in the general theory of impact, the science of flight, and the mechanics of motion including the bouncing and rolling of balls. These are the most fascinating of the physical sciences. The book should be considered as a dual-path journey. On the one hand the basic sciences are shown to explain even the finest details of the game. At the same time the different aspects of the game from the swing to the conditions for capture in the hole, provide wonderful examples for explaining scientific principles at work. If young golfers, in particular, become interested in the physical sciences through reading this book that would be a wonderful bonus. Almost everything about the game of golf provides examples of perfection, when measured in terms of the underlying scientific principles. The intention of the book is to describe this fundamental nature of the game in the simplest terms possible without sacrificing rigorous checks on the accuracy of the work. The reader with even distant memories of high school science, and maybe not even good memories, can follow the general descriptions of the golf science, and in so doing reach a much deeper and richer appreciation of the game.

From the Back Cover Advance praise for the Science of the Perfect Swing as shown above.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Fascinating look into what's involved in science of golf swing By KC in FL Detailed look into the science behind the golf swing. Contains numerous diagrams and charts. If you are looking for the standard golf tips publication this is not it. If you're looking for a detailed understanding of the dynamics that drive the golf swing this is a real treat. Shows numerous comparisons between professional and amateur swings. While it does contain abundant detailed scientific analysis author summarizes key points for the average person to understand. Very unique publication.

By Kindle Customer So I once went on a golf forum and asked if anyone knew whether if the club was accerating when it hit the ball it imparted more velocity then if the acceleration had peaked. The answer was, "I just hit 'em, find 'em, and hit 'em again.". i.e. physics questions not wanted here. But physics is what determines whether the ball goes straight and far. Period. Well, if you like physics, or even if you just don't mind it too much, this book will help your game. Now much of it is very very cerebral and only interesting from an intellectual point of view. You can skip those parts. But lots of it is directly convertible into how you swing. One item in particular increased distance and accuracy for me quite a lot. I won't publish that here because the author deserves to be paid for his insights.
