Tisiphone loves spending her days playing poker in the underworld, far away from mortals and all the trouble they cause—and all the terrible mistakes they make. Unfortunately for this goddess, her sister Alecto has vanished in Las Vegas—and the gods of Olympus believe only Tisi can find her and bring her back. To make matters worse, they force her to partner up with a mortal: recently deceased FBI agent Archer Mays. With all these challenges, how can a Fury keep her temper? On their quest to track down the missing goddess, Tisi and Archer battle danger, demons, and even their simmering attraction to one another—until a sinister plot unfolds that could devastate humans and gods alike. Now, Tisiphone must set everything right within a few days, or find herself trapped in the mortal world she despises…forever. From the author of the enchanting Stacy Justice series comes the first book in her brand-new Secret Goddess series: a book that proves hell hath no Fury, because she’s in Las Vegas.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. I shouldn't even like this book, but I LOVE it! By Just Me I don't much like cities, and I really dislike Vegas. I don't like conspicuous consumption, gambling, crazy busy cities, etc. As the main character, Tisiphone, says, "I would rather dig out my own eyeballs and feed them to a raccoon through a straw than go to Las Vegas." I can deal with death, but the idea of torture really makes me squirm. So why did I even think about getting this book, which has both Vegas and torture? Because I discovered Barbra Annino's writing last year and she hasn't let me down yet. She is a skilled plotmaster (yes, I'm making this word up to describe what she does). So, Sin City Goddess is set in Vegas and there is torture in it. Why am I ok with that in this book, to the ;point where I thoroughly enjoyed the book? Well, first, these were both important to the philosophical and psychological aspects of the book (something that Annino does a great job of bringing to her books). Second, the torture was presented, so that you knew it was happening, and very much felt it's effects on the characters, but it wasn't presented as gratuitous violence. But, there is much more to the book than that.As I said, Annino brings a wonderful feminine (that is, female, not "weak"), philosophical / psychological aspect to her writings, even though her series are quite different from each other in other ways. Here's a taste from this book, "It was Athena who had shown me the power of mercy, forgiveness, and meditation. She had taught me how to gain peace and strength from the natural surroundings that appealed to me, like the water and the moon. In other words, it was Athena who had taught me how to subdue my fury. Her gray eyes gazed into mine as I took a few deep breaths, imagining all the noisy electronics fading away, gently lapping waves taking their place." Tisiphone uses this to center herself as she works to fight evil. Real evil. I won't spoil the plot by revealing more here. The plot is captivating and unpredictable. If the quality of the writing wasn't enough to keep me reading (WHICH IT IS!), curiosity about what happens next would.Annino wraps the book up with a note telling us about writing the book and offers, "Whatever the reason, I hope this book encourages you to take back your power, no matter what you've battled." This book does have much to offer along this line. Eagerly awaiting the next book in the series and very curious as to whether I will be meeting a new main character or following Tisiphone to New Orleans!

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan/ junkie of all her writing, but this one has a certain sizzle that only Vegas & the underworld can bring. It pulls you in immediately & keeps you reading until the last page, where, inevitably, you will hope she turns it into a series. I'd like to say this will keep you captivated for days, but it won't last for days because you'll probably want to read the whole book in one sitting. Grab it & enjoy ☺
