Excellent "First Contact" Story By Elliot Raymond Gallun was an excellent, if unheralded, science fiction writer, with a long career, stretching from the early 1930s well into the 1980s. This mid-50s novelette is one of the better first contact stories of the era, a convincing depiction of the first visit of an alien spacecraft to the earth and the aftermath of that visit. A number of Gallun's stories are available as free downloads for the Kindle, but many of the others are not his best work. I would recommend starting here if you don't know Gallun's work; if this whets your appetite for more, try Asteroid of Fear (another freebie; not as good as this, but not bad) or A First Glimpse And Other Science Fiction Classics (an excellent Gallun anthology).

Books 4 and 5 review By LJ The author continues with the saga of the Burrows family and those who have joined in the fight against the Chinese invaders. These two books are fast paced with lots of action, albeit, some action is once again far fetched and exudes the perspective that; the Chinese don't know what they're doing. Whenever they're attacked, by any of the Burrows clan, it's overly simplistic and everyone seems to know exactly what needs to be done to take them out. They've taken down four helicopters now with ease and precise measures, along with 50-60 invaders and other 'bad guys.' Pretty darn good for 'civilians.'Over five books now (very short novels), they're just getting around to forming their 'militia.' The government thus far, doesn't seem to be fighting at all, and it's implied that; Ian Burrows is the only person that could or can possibly make all the difference in the world. I kept asking myself throughout these two books; "where the heck is the military?" There's no way there would only be National Guard personnel in a national situation like this.I sense that this series is going to grow into a lot more short books before it's all done and over with. I haven't yet decided if I'll continue with this series, for it's beginning to bog down for me. Plus, if the author is paying someone to 'edit' for him...he's NOT getting his money's worth. There are words that are left out and usage of wrong words. Several times, the word "thought" is written as "though." This isn't something a spell check will pick up...it has to be proofread to catch these things.Anyway...the premise of the story is good, it's just lacking some logical thought lines that would make the story flow and make more sense. For example; Any CIA operative would have went out and tracked down Captain Wu immediately, once it was brought to their attention that he was in the area. But Ian doesn't do that...he lets it go, and it costs them dearly. That was not logical and made no sense...especially when they had the manpower to do so. All the kids are depicted as 'SEAL Team" members who are ready and willing to take the fight to the enemy. And Mary? Here's a gal that; within two weeks, becomes so gung-ho that she wants to kill anything that moves, yet in book one, she didn't like guns and was scared of guns. But because her partner was killed by the invaders, and Ian gave her a 15 second pep talk, she is now the 'sniper' for the Burrows clan. It's kind of laughable, really.

I love TEOTWAWKI fiction and this is one of my top three favorites out of the dozens I've read. Not implausible and gives some good tips in amongst the story without taking away from it. The ONLY issues are 1- a few editing issues where words are misspelled and 2- I HATE having each "book" really be a chapter!!!! PLEASE don't do this! I would much rather buy them all at once as one BOOK instead of 5 or more chapter sized short stories. That makes me crazy and the only reason I bought this is because of the great reviews. I normally will pass over any book less than 200 pages.

I truly enjoyed it. I can't hold the lack of elaboration against the book, though I felt a few things needed more explaining...a novella is a short story after all.It's wonderful that I can enjoy these short stories while awaiting the next in the main series, which I'm hopelessly hooked to. Thanks Tara Maya.

This story contained the depth of character Tara Maya always manages to capture in her books, as well as being a stand-alone novelette with a happy ending. This was a refreshing change from the great patience that is needed to find out Dindi's story. Jensi's story is a short magical version of Pride and Prejudice. It's definetely worth the read.

By Shannon Andrews It's a must to actually learn or do have some knowledge on what is the the language of our computers which we used everyday. This book provided me all the basic details essentials on what Javascript is. Everything was discussed rather simple and yet any reader would gain immediate comprehension on the topic. It was well written and concise that I quickly discern what the booleans, operators or strings are all about without any difficulty at all. Overall this book make me understand in dept what and how Java is very important in the computer world. This is an informative book every novice should read to gain full perception what Javascript is.

It also contains a lot of illustrations that makes the process of learning easier. It didn't take me much time to read this book because everything is explained in simple terms. It appeared less difficult than I expected. Now I'm not afraid of programming. I'm sure that I can master it.

He does not like to read, and it has always been a struggle to get him to read any kind of a novel. We got him this set, and he can't wait to read them all. He started out reading one chapter a day, now he reads two chapters each day. He has even asked to read instead of watching tv.

My child and I read several chapters together every night. Each book is numbered and should be read in order, as the story progresses from one book to the next. As an adult who does not love Minecraft but is familiar with it, I find the stories to be a little boring. My child, however, loves the stories and relates to the adventures the characters have. This boxed set makes a very nice gift. I do recommend the set for anyone who likes Minecraft.

She has Minecraft swords, figurines and she often builds different worlds on her XBox and iPad mini. My workplace had a book fair a couple of months ago and I saw this book there. I bought it and showed it to her when I got home. She finished reading the book in 3 days and asked me if I can buy the other books written by Winter Morgan. Good thing it's available here on Amazon because this was more expensive at Target.I'm not sure what this book is about but I love that my daughter loves these. These came in a boxed set and although one side of the box was a bit crushed (maybe due to shipping and handling?) , the books were still okay. She loves this set and I like that she automatically grabs these and reads them on her own.

In Mortuary Landscapes of the Classic Maya: Rituals of Body and Soul, the anthropological archaeologist and bioarchaeologist Andrew K. Scherer explores the broad range of burial practices among the Maya of the Classic period (AD 250–900), integrating information gleaned from his own fieldwork with insights from the fields of iconography, epigraphy, and ethnography to illuminate this society’s rich funerary traditions.

Scherer’s study of burials along the Usumacinta River at the Mexican-Guatemalan border and in the Central Petén region of Guatemala—areas that include Piedras Negras, El Kinel, Tecolote, El Zotz, and Yaxha—reveals commonalities and differences among royal, elite, and commoner mortuary practices. By analyzing skeletons containing dental and cranial modifications, as well as the adornments of interred bodies, Scherer probes Classic Maya conceptions of body, wellness, and the afterlife.

Scherer also moves beyond the body to look at the spatial orientation of the burials and their integration into the architecture of Maya communities. From Kirkus Reviews Delicious, closely observed place vignettes of southeastern Arizona, from naturalist Bowers (A Full Life in a Small Place and Other Essays from a Desert Garden, 1995). The Santa Catalinas, the Pinalenos, the Huachucas, the Santa Ritas, Baboquivari--these southwestern mountains are for Bowers ``the stuff of wary beauty and abiding love . . . a love that lies less in easy responses than in intimate acquaintance, doggedly pursued.'' After 20 years, she is still going about making the place her home, finding, synecdochically, a vastness in the details: in the petroglyphs of the Hohokam, artist-farmers, contemporaries of Chaucer; in an old snag, perforated like a Chinese checkerboard, an acorn in every hole, tucked there by a woodpecker (``The tree seemed to have a hundred brown eyeballs''); in a melancholy walk on Mt. Graham, home of an endangered squirrel threatened by a new observatory. She is unhappy with the human degradation of her dreamscape, angry at the roads cutting through the wild, jarringly like ``rough footsteps in the dark, a banging door, the sound of gunfire,'' but she does not beat the reader senseless with such things. Rather, like a good pilgrim, she dawdles, lets the landscape move through her, tunes her fine eye to the exigent art of seeing--``the cliffs stand on the rim like the fur on an angry cat's back.'' Her delineations of the land are sharp as crystal, and fragile and melancholy, too, as if the land might melt into air, ephemeral as a desert flower. The desert Southwest is blessed with superb place portraitists: Edward Abbey, Charles Bowden, Jack Dykinga, and many more. I felt that I was right along with her on these explorations, and I highly recommend this book for those who enjoy outer - and inner - exploration.

Upgrading to windows 10 By Shelby Fischer I am using windows 7 and I am content of its feature, but I have a thing keeps pop up in my windows that my computer is ready for windows 10 which I don't know what is that or it is really necessary. But I just realized that using windows 10 is such an efficient way.

Better version of operating system By Daniela Bradford I was curious when I saw on my computer that says get windows 10 on the side, I tried to ignore it but it keeps getting on my way. So I decided to do research and here I saw this windows 10 ultimate beginners guide. It says that it is better to upgrade to windows to experienced the best feature of the latest version. I haven't done it yet but I guess windows 10 is promising and I don't see anything wrong about it. The book was written well about windows operating system.
