Excerpt from Laokoon, and How the Ancients Represented DeathThough there is no writer whose works may be more advantageously studied as a whole than Lessing's, there are few of equal importance who are known in this country in so partial and fragmentary a manner. Various translations of 'Nathan der Weise' and 'Minna von Barnhelm' have, it is true, exhibited him fairly enough as a dramatist of pure style, refined humour, and liberal thought; at the same time another class of readers has had more than one opportunity of studying the treatise on the 'Laokoon,' and admiring his vigorous and suggestive style of criticism and wide scholarship, which must always give it a literary interest whatever substantial value may be assigned to it. But such an acquaintance with isolated pieces hardly allows a reader to estimate their real value, and still less does it afford him an opportunity of co-ordinating the positions of Lessing the dramatist and Lessing the critic, and forming any definite notion of his true place in literary history. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Toward an older Laokoon By Simon Mauer Original and enlightening two essays. I found Lessing's writing clear but quite dense; there are copious foot notes, sometimes taking up most of the page, many references to scholarly texts, and BEWARE- many paragraphs in Greek and Latin and occasionally a sentence or two in French - these almost entirely without translations. Also only five illustrations in a text that refers to many works of art. Yet, his writing is clear enough that his ideas are quite easily understood. (Even only understanding English). I wish the book had more illustrations and translations, if you are like me this book will give you plenty to look up!Conclusion: I would definitely recommend this book for lovers of Art theory, in spite of the above mentioned shortcomings. Laokoon deals with the relationship of the Plastic Arts and Poetry to each other and to Myth and what is appropriate to each; their essential qualities; also touches on beauty and ugliness. How the Ancients Represented Death is an interesting little essay on a discovery Lessing believes he has made regarding exactly what the title states. .Happy reading!

It gave some insight into his marriage with Elizabeth Barrett, and how he dealt or failed to deal with her death for the remainder of his life. It contained many letters Browning wrote to relatives and friends showing his prose writing, which was very descriptive. I would have enjoyed reading this more if I had a copy of Browning's poetry next to me.

Publication date: 1899Nothing could convey George Saintsbury's style so well as some key quotations:But once more, what we go to Mr Matthew Arnold for is not fact, it is not argument, it is not even learning. It is phrase, attitude, style, that by which, as he says admirably in this very book, “what a man has to say is recast and heightened in such a manner as to add dignity and distinction to it.” It is the new critical attitude, the appreciation of literary beauty in and for itself, the sense of “the word,” the power of discerning and the power of reflecting charm, the method not more different from the wooden deduction of the old school of critics than from the merely unenlightened and Philistine commonness of the reviewers, his earlier contemporaries, or from the aimless “I like that” and “I don’t like this” which does duty now, and did then, and has done always, for criticism itself.(It is not so much a style, as a lack of style. The sentences are not so much ornate as careless and exuberant, with a tendency to run away with themselves):He at least thought—and there was some justification of a good many kinds for him in thinking—that intellectual changes, of importance equal to the political, were coming or come upon the world. And so for a time he seems to have grown rather cold towards the Muses, his earliest and always his truest loves. Social, political, and religious matters tempted him away from literature; and for a matter of ten years it can hardly be said that he had anything to do with her except to take her name in vain in the title of by far his worst, as it was by far his most popular, volume.(This is an allusion to LITERATURE AND DOGMA). Saintsbury apologizes for taking the time to argue with Arnold's brand of Christianity, but these are actually some of the most lively and valuable passages in the book:Like almost all critics of his class recently, especially like Professor Huxley in another division, he appears not to comprehend what, to the believers in the supernatural, the supernatural means. He applies, as they all apply, the tests of the natural, and says, “Now really, you know, these tests are destructive.” He says—he cannot prove—that miracles do not happen now; his adversaries, if they were wise, would simply answer, “Après?” Do any of them pretend to prescribe to their God that His methods shall be always the same, or that those methods shall stand the tests of the laboratory and the School of Charters? that He shall give “a good title,” like a man who is selling a house? Some at least would rather not; they would feel appallingly little interest in a Divinity after this sworn-attorney and chartered-accountant fashion, who must produce vouchers for all His acts. And further (to speak with reverence), the Divinity whom they do worship would be likely to answer Mr Arnold in the words of a prophet of Mr Arnold’s own— “Du gleichst dem Geist den du begreifst, Nicht Mir!”The whole book is a fine, concise overview of Matthew Arnold's life and work.

200 of 209 people found the following review helpful. Caution, this is an abridgement. By Joseph W. Trigg I bought this version when I could not find my old copy. On trying to find a favorite passage (Darwin's revulsion at a parasitic wasp in Brazil and the inconsistency of such cruelty with any providential design of nature by a good God), I noticed that it was not there. I do not know what else is missing. I find it infuriating that this was not adequately noted on the cover of the book. I always prefer books as the author wrote them, especially when the author is Darwin. This is a lively, beautiful and haunting work that I first read when I was thirteen and have read twice since. Readers deserve the whole thing.

Charles Darwin as Indiana Jones By Vincent Poirier We all know Charles Darwin as a scholarly bearded old English gentleman, and like Leonardo da Vinci, Darwin has this image defining him for all future generations. Even though most everyone knows Darwin spent five years traveling the oceans on the HMS Beagle, the image of a young dynamic Darwin never takes over. Reading this book will change this.Darwin sailed on the Beagle, a small three-mast sailing ship, and circumnavigated the globe. Over five years, he visited numerous islands in the Atlantic and Pacific and extensively surveyed the east and west coasts of South America. He hiked up and down mountains, traveled on horseback across the arid Argentinean plains, crossed the lonely Peruvian desert, and trekked the grandiose Chilean Cordilleras. He thought nothing of packing a train of mules for a two-month overland journey across the Andes going from Chile to Argentina and back again. On all his land expeditions he hired local guides, from Gauchos in Argentina to South Pacific islanders in Tahiti. Darwin's accounts of his expeditions are not only interesting adventures, they are also good portraits of the people he met. These include Latin American governors and generals, Argentinean ranchers, very primitive natives on Tierra del Fuego, and so on.The journal begins with an account of Cape de Verd islands, then most of the book is spent on Brazil, Argentina, and Chile, and we have to wait until Chapter 17 before we get to what all Darwin fans really want to read, namely the account of his visit to the Galapagos. Though short, the account does not disappoint. We read of Darwin's finches, of two allied species of lizards, and of the giant turtles. Darwin also presents his great insight: that geographical isolation contributes to speciation. He came by this insight when it was pointed out to him that nearly identical species were seldom found on the same island. Another insight was that the fauna and flora an island depends more on that of the nearby mainland than on latitude. For example the plants of the Galapagos Islands were similar to those of the American west coast, while those of Cape de Verd, at the same latitude but in the Atlantic, resembled plants found in Africa. Darwin then continues with accounts of Tahiti, New Zealand and Australia, where we read how he thought coral reef islands were formed.In the last chapter Darwin tells us of his visit to St-Helena and he does in fact mention its most famous resident, Napoleon Bonaparte. Though the French Emperor had already died, his remains had not yet been moved to Les Invalides in Paris. Darwin writes of the grave only in passing and is explicitly careful not too make too much of it. Apparently visitors in those days had a habit of overdoing their descriptions of Napoleon's rather simple headstone.Travel notes like these and the descriptions of the people he met, were for me the most charming aspect of the book. The portraits Darwin paints are invariably sympathetic to human nature. Certainly Darwin was a man of his times and valued civilization very highly, but he was no racist and believed that all men could find happiness and enlightenment, and that all men had a right to be free. He despised slavery, and wrote eloquent passages attacking the prevalent institution. From this journal, we come to know a dynamic, adventurous young man, and a thoughtful liberal one who would only later shake our view of our place in the world.

Cliffe The 1 star is for Penguin, because the cover does not warn you that the content has been sharply abridged. Darwin's thinking and writing are wonderful -- but grossly and unfairly cut to ribbons.

He is a fearless, black kitten. A very brave black kitten, and one who chases mice, he'll have you know. He just needs to find out what a mouse actually looks like. So, Max is on the hunt. Is there a mouse in that can? No, but a fly is. Fly says he saw Mouse scurry by just moments ago. Next Max tries the fish bowl. "Excuse me, are you Mouse?" asks Max. No, says Fish, but he just saw Mouse dash outside. Max checks with the birds in the trees, the neighborhood pink elephant, and Rabbit. They all insist that Mouse just went that-a-way. Max finally does find a creature who looks suspiciously like a mouse, but he claims to be a MONSTER and points him in the direction of said mouse, who is sleeping nearby. Of course, the big, green, homely thing IS a monster and is much bigger than Max. One gulp is all it takes, and Max is in the dark pit of Monster's stomach. Fortunately, the monster sneezes and Max flies out. Maybe "chasing mice is not all it's cracked up to be," he says. He doesn't have to be Max the Brave all the time, except when chasing small monsters with big ears and long tails that just happen to look suspiciously like mice. Full of playful humor, this book's cartoonlike illustrations are created digitally with some crayon. The individual pages are bright yellow, orange, green, and salmon. I thought that is was a very cute story and very well done. Max is a little kitten who is very brave and that likes to chase mice. There is a slight problem though. Max has absolutely no idea what a mouse looks like!We then follow along with Max as he asks various other animals if they are Mouse. Unfortunately none of them are. He eventually asks Mouse (but he has no idea he is asking him) if he has seen himself. Of course, Mouse tells him no and gives him some bad advice that ends up scaring poor little Max!I think that this story is great to read to a little one. It allows you to open up a discussion with them about bravery and how it's okay to not be brave all the time. That it is okay to be scared once in awhile. It also features a lot of different types of animals not just Max and Mouse, allowing your littles to experience more creatures.I also really liked the illustrations. While they were very simple they were still done very nicely and well. One day he decides to go out, in search of a mouse, meeting with several individuals, as well as a bit of trouble. I read this delightful book to my Ewoks; who best to share it with? They never lost interest and giggled the entire time. The fun characters, combined with my comical voices, made Max the Brave an entertaining read before bed. Ed Vere's illustrations are bold and appealing to toddler eyes, mine too. With a monsters who wasn't terrifying and expressions that were relatable, I think children of all ages will enjoy it- I know we did. An amusing story with sight gags similar to John Klassen's "hat" books By Miss Print Max is a brave and fearless kitten and he is totally ready to start catching mice. The only problem? Max isn't sure what a mouse looks like. Max sets out to find mouse with hilarious results in this playful and engaging picture book.Max the Brave (2015) by Ed Vere is a great read-a-loud choice. Each page features a different color background to make Max stand out even more in bold contrast. Animals drawn largely in black serve to underscore the big reveal at the end.An amusing story with sight gags similar to John Klassen's "hat" books, this one is sure to have lots of appeal with readers of all ages.

A Momentary Lapse of Judgment

Alex Stowe, head mage of Artimé, stood alone at the helm of the magical white boat called Claire, speeding eastward over the waves. The island, his friends, and all the people who were gathered on the glorious green lawn grew smaller and smaller behind him. He didn’t know where he was going. He only knew that his identical twin brother, Aaron, was out there somewhere. In trouble, definitely, but alive—Alex could feel the life in his own broken soul. He also knew that there was no one else in the world who would rescue Aaron. Not that Quill’s high priest deserved rescuing, especially by the head mage of Artimé, after everything Aaron had done to hurt him and his people. And even though Aaron wasn’t technically responsible for either of Quill’s organized attacks on Artimé, he had killed Mr. Today. An unforgiveable offense. Yet the invisible bond between the brothers was ridiculously stubborn, and it wouldn’t let go of Alex, no matter what Aaron did. It was wrong and maddening, but it seemed they were irrevocably tied together. And thus, here he was. With nothing but open sea before him, Alex closed his tired eyes as he traversed the waves, letting the cool breeze wash over his face and flutter at his shirt collar. It was exhilarating. Feeling rejuvenated from the weariness of battle and grief of the past weeks, Alex filled his lungs with fresh air. He opened his eyes. The gentle swells of deepest blue seemed to stretch out forever before him. So serene and peaceful—he loved the sea. Now and then a spear of doubt over his sudden departure pierced his conscience, though he tried to ignore it. His intense premonition that his brother had been so near death and was now most certainly alive had clouded his judgment. It felt like a second chance . . . but a second chance at what? He rubbed his side where the pain had been. His premonition was more than magical—it was physical. Something much deeper than magic could ever be. What was Alex supposed to do, ignore it? It seemed irreverent to do so. Granted, he knew this was an impulsive move. It was the kind of move Alex rarely made these days. And it might cause problems in the near future, with the looming presence of Gondoleery Rattrapp growing larger and remaining completely unpredictable. Alex’s actions might even be considered reckless by some. After all, he and Lani had just managed to rid the entire island—Quill included—of the ice spell Gondoleery had cast upon the land. And even though Liam Healy had reported that Gondoleery’s palace takeover was spur of the moment, no one really knew what she had up her singed little sleeve, or when she’d attack next. Alex’s mad dash to rescue Aaron had more immediate problems as well, which he realized as he looked around the boat. He’d brought no food. No water. If this was to be a rescue trip, Alex was sorely unprepared. It might take days or weeks to find Aaron. What was Alex supposed to do? He couldn’t stop for provisions at the nearest island to the east, since it was a jutting cylinder of sheer rock that looked completely unconquerable and inaccessible. And paying a visit to the carnivorous-gorilla island beyond it was not something Alex would ever do if he had even an ounce of life left in him—that place meant certain death to anyone who landed on its shores. He couldn’t get the image of the saber-toothed silverback attacking the pig out of his mind. Alex paled. What if Aaron was on that island? If so, he must have found a place to hide, at least temporarily. He’d know in his soul soon enough if Aaron got killed. He was quite sure of that. Alex searched his robe pockets, disappointment growing at his inadequate provisions. There was nothing there that could help him take down a monstrous fanged gorilla, other than a smattering of nonlethal spell component options. He had no idea if the spells would work on such a creature. These same spells had done nothing to stop the horrible eel that had plagued them on their previous journey. Now that Alex had spent a few minutes really thinking about the consequences of his actions, he realized that he was more like someone in need of rescue than someone who was setting out to help another. “What am I doing?” he muttered. He slowed the boat and glanced over his shoulder. He could no longer tell who stood at the shore watching him go, only that there was a large group of people gathered there—scores of Unwanteds, but also abandoned Warbler children and mistreated Necessaries from Quill who had all found acceptance and protection in Artimé. They were people and creatures who had come to trust in Alex and rely on him to protect them. They were loyal, and they’d fought valiantly and tirelessly as thirty of their friends and loved ones, including Alex’s best friend, Meghan, had fallen in the ferocious battle with General Blair and his Quillitary. They were resilient, and they’d withstood Gondoleery Rattrapp’s ice spell. But they were most certainly in for more trouble from the new high priest and dictator of Quill. Alex looked within himself. What kind of leader and protector would willingly and selfishly leave his faithful followers at a time like this? The head mage of Artimé should have one goal—to protect his people. And Alex was doing the exact opposite, leaving them horrendously in danger while he went out on a lark to save somebody whom nobody else wanted to save. As the truth set in, Alex released a heavy sigh. He’d lost his mind, or at the very least he’d had a severe lapse in judgment. Aaron Stowe, former high priest of Quill, enemy of Artimé, wasn’t worth it. Aaron wasn’t truly worth anything. And it was high time Alex let go of him. Forever. With new resolve, Alex took one more look at the sparkling sea, then swung the boat around and headed home.

I loved how the wrinkle with Sky and Alex smoothed out nicely and Simber really was the best flying cheetah ever. Overall, WoW just WOW. I do have some complaints. 1. I really find it annoying that Mrs. McMann will not leave the story alone and now I have to keep on buying her books and I can't say I've finished until she finishes but then again, I don't really want it to end anyway. Amazing By John Funseth All though it didnt happen in this book rather the one before, massive kudos to the author for having the strength to kill off a main character in a devastating way shocking me myself and other people most likely, I hvent read the reviews of the ast book but i bet there was some backlash about that factor. Also this book is worth the money just to see aaron change as a character, i would recommend the series to anyone and will remember it as long as i live. This sets up nicely to the final book but due to that I can only give it a four, almost as bad as deathly hallows part 1 (the movie) At the end of the day there isnt too much action which some ppl prefer but it is painfully obvious its all going into the finale.

Martin *I received this ARC from the author in exchange for a honest review*Uoria Mates ll, #1 by Ruth Anne ScottThe Klimnu have now been eliminated, but everyone talks about the warrior that saved them and the strange world they encountered. One warrior, Bannack carries alot and anger and rage and suggests they explore this mirror world. So the Uoria warriors and their mates go down to the caverns. There they discover a gorgeous and mysterious creature, named Loralia, the last of her kind.Bannack was chosen to be her protector but he struggles with the feelings he has towards Loralia, he fights it. When he finds out that the other warriors are going to be exploring the planet outside the compound for the first time, he wants to go. So he gets the human woman to look after her and show her the planet, while he goes with the other warriors. His confused, doesn't know what he wants but he needs to get away.Another great story. This author has an interesting and imaginative way of storytelling. The book was very entertaining and I like her style of writing. The characters are still developing but they likable so far. It was really enjoyable and I can't wait till book 2!

I recommend that you read Uoria Mates first. What a great start to Uoria II. It starts the day after the final battle at a funeral for their fallen warrior, Jem had taken the last of the Kilmnu with him. They finally realize that they don`t know their world at all, they start with the mirror world right below them. Bannock is struggling with his emotions and is sure it is all wrapped up with the fallen warrior but there`s more to it, if only he can admit it to himself. We`re introduced to a species that has inhabited the planet long before Denynsos` arrival. Loralia is the soul survivor of her people, can she make Bannock see what she knows to be true. Can`t wait for the next book.I received an Arc for an honest review.

I loved the first series and this one seems to be on the same par. Very well written and being able to continue with the characters is so wonderful. Can't wait for future installments. Don't pass this one up!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I am conflicted. By Erin Elizabeth I read the first two in the series and I was really looking forward to this one. I have to say that the main character really drove me insane in this book. I don't remember her being, well, annoying. I didn't understand why Cali and her husband did what they did. It just didn't make sense at all unless they had a giant death wish all along. It sort of wasted the whole series for me- there was absolutely no point in anything they did. Read the book if you're like me and have to start what you finish.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Slow Read, but Well Written By A M Olson "The Escape" is the 3rd (Maybe Final?) book in the "Reanimates Series. Compared to the first and second books, "The Escape" is my least favorite. I loved the First book "The Complex," mainly because it had a lot of zombie action.The second book, "The Highway," found me a little less enchanted, but none-the-less, it was still an OK read. I found that as the series goes on the zombie action gets less and less (almost non-existent), and focuses more on the human relationships.If you are looking for an action packed zombie adventure, this book may not be for you. "The Escape," was the slowest moving story line of all the books. I got tired of reading the mundane day-to-day activities. There was very little action and the groups survival became a bit unrealistic. I felt like I was reading about a zombie apocalypse through "rose colored glasses."The ending was a mixed bag for me. As soon as the action started, the book was over with. I was thinking, "Okay, there got to be more, another book maybe?" Although, if there were another book, I'm not sure I'd purchase it. I felt no attachment to the characters that died, and I think it's because I was ready for this story to be over with.I can tell the author put a lot of work into this series, but this book just wasn't for me.

All three books are zombie post apocalypse survival stories. The human element of the entire series is what interested me the most. Less zombies, blood and guts and more of a focus on how people can survive on daily basis and even thrive. Another refreshing aspect I enjoyed was less acronyms of weapons and equitment. Guns are guns, basically a simple concept. There are plenty of military zombie post apocalypse novels available. Each chapter had a clear beginning and end, nothing really was left hanging for the reader to wonder or lose interest with. There is love, family and plaenty of growing up that was done with the main characters over all three books. I genuinely cared for the characters especially the main character and her husband. Well written, well edited and no"filler" used to build up the word count. I would highly recommend all three novels and am looking forward to the authors next book.

I highly recommend this book to everyone!

Una mujer única y al la vez conocida By Pennell Somsen Una vez tuve el privilegio escuchar una plática de Mayra Santos Febres, que es una oradora muy vibrante y cuando escribes su narrativa brilla. Acabo de leer La amante de Gardel y me encanta. Micaela es un personaje tan complejo que encarna el conflicto que muchas mujeres sufren, lo de dejar todo hasta sí misma por el amor o seguir con la carrera o sea con la vida que no es complacer a un hombre. Estoy horrorizada que se acueste con él sin protección pero al mismo tiempo una parte de la mujer independiente que soy entiende eso, entregarse por completo a un hombre. Me fascina el detalle de que Micaela dice que leer el libro de plantas fue el comienzo del final porque con eso sabemos que aunque Gardel la rechaza ya hubo en ella una semilla del deseo de seguir con su vida, que su destino no fue escrito solamente por él y sus caprichos. Me estoy asombraba con las investigaciones que hizo, o sea con la historia en la novela. Echa luz a los experimentos que hicieron con seres humanos en Puerto Rico, algo que no aparece en la Historia con mayúsculas, y nos hacen falta la historia con minúsculas. Cuando toca el tema del racismo se trata no solamente del racismo abierto y legal cómo lo del hotel que no le permitió a Micaela entrar por el ascensor normal y los experimentos de Rhoads sino también del racismo más sutil y escondido. De una manera se puede decir que Gardel no es racista porque le ama a una mujer negra (igual cómo Thomas Jefferson) y es amigo de un hombre negro pero al fin y al cabo no lucha por ninguno de ellos, tiene tolerancia para los racistas. Hay más detalles que me permite, una mujer blanca, vivir por un rato con la piel de Micaela y sufrir el racismo cotidiano. Más que nada estaba picada con la novela, no podía dejar de leerla. Eso no me pasa siempre con novelas en español porque leo menos rápidamente en mi segunda lengua, entonces normalmente leo un poco en español y después me relajo con una novela en inglés. Esta vez no, leí sin parar hasta el final, un final que me dejó con ojos cuadrados por las palabras perfectas que describió el viaje de una mujer única y a la vez conocida.

La narrativa es muy amena y escrita en un español bien puertorriqueño. Me hubiera gustado leer 200 páginas mas por lo entretenido del mismo. La autora desarrolla y mezcla muy bien una historia real ( Gardel) con una amena y brillante imaginación.

En ella se entrecruzan los discursos de raza, diáspora y género como en ninguna otra de las entregas narrativas de Mayra Santos Febres. Aquí la escritora se encuentra con su verbo de frente y, finalmente, escribe la novela que viene ensayando desde todas las anteriores, para darnos un producto completo y redondo. La carrera de Carlos Gardel y su paso por Puerto Rico marca el momento de la modernización de esta Isla del Caribe como base experimental de los espacios que el espectáculo va a tener en el resto de Latinoamérica. El encuentro de Gardel con la diáspora boricua en Nueva York va a internacionalizar su carrera y el cantante se da cuenta que ya no debe seguir cantando para Madrid, París o Nueva York, sino para toda nuestra América.

Its been while since we've had a Bears book and I've really missed all the characters from Sentinel, Wyoming and all the humor and laughter that come with them.What starts out with Abby and Tessa going to Florida to break Darkwater out of a retirement home and bring him back to Wyoming turns into almost every character we've ever met in this series getting caught up in a huge snow storm and stranded some where out on the road.Plenty of humor and touching moments are had during those times and when everyone has to converge at the Hidden Rock Ranch we get even more surprising moments.I hope there are going to be future books because we were introduced to a new character who I hope we get to find out more about plus I really want Winslow to find him a good woman!

By Margie Hager Thank you, Jocie McKade for bringing us back to Sentinel, Wyoming for more adventures with the Baer Brothers and all their neighbors. The story begins with an accident involving Frosty, Abby Baer's pet bull who now is full-grown, but gentle and affectionate. Segue to Abby and her friend Tessa skipping out on Abby's concert tour, breaking Indian shaman, Darkwater out of a nursing home in Tampa, Florida and facing a blizzard to get home to Wyoming. Many funny adventures await them along the way including meeting up with senior citizen hippie, Flower and her pet skunk, Jeremiah. We get to reunite with all our favorites from past books such as nasties, Ben and Kelly Childers, George and Margaret McIvey and many more. I love the author's writing style which includes much humor and warmth. I highly recommend this book.

About the Author Polish author Joseph Conrad is considered to be one of the greatest English-language novelists, a remarkable achievement considering English was not his first language. Conrad s literary works often featured a nautical setting, reflecting the influences of his early career in the Merchant Navy, and his depictions of the struggles of the human spirit in a cold, indifferent world are best exemplified in such seminal works as Heart of Darkness, Lord JimM, The Secret Agent, Nostromo, and Typhoon. Regarded as a forerunner of modernist literature, Conrad s writing style and characters have influenced such distinguished writers as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, William S. Burroughs, Hunter S. Thompson, and George Orwell, among many others. Many of Conrad s novels have been adapted for film, most notably Heart of Darkness, which served as the inspiration and foundation for Francis Ford Coppola s 1979 film Apocalypse Now.

He is one of my favorites,so I liked reading what he had to say.But if you are interested in the seeing what an author has to say about his work, this will interest you also.Recommended for the person who looks for some insight into the author.
